Serving with BCA since January 2020

The Langmead family moved to Lightning Ridge in early 2020. Kurt & Bec have always loved sharing their lives and the gospel with people in places that others might miss. They count it a privilege to serve as a family in Lightning Ridge. Together with their local church and wider network of supporters, they prayerfully seek to be “Building Christ’s Church – in the Ridge, on the Rock” – that is, the solid rock of Christ and his word.

Lightning Ridge is an iconic mining town in north-western New South Wales, famous for its rare black opal. 'The Ridge' is situated near the southern border of Queensland, about 740 kilometres south-west of Brisbane. Population estimates range from 1,500 to 7,000 people, depending on the time of the year and who is counting — the population sign shows a question mark! The Ridge is an eclectic town with a diverse mix of cultures. Opal mining and tourism are the main industries that support the economy.

The Langmead's Prayer Points for June 2025
  • Give thanks that Christ’s church is made up of all tribes and cultures – pray for some of the local ‘tribes’ who will gather next month for the NAIDOC week (6–13 July) and annual Gem Festival (23–26 July).

The Langmead's Prayer Points for July 2025
  • As the winter tourist season is in full swing, pray that we can embody and extend a culture of gospel hospitality to those who visit, as well as a mission-mindset towards those who don’t yet have faith in Christ.

The Langmead's Prayer Points for August 2025
  • Pray for our monthly ‘Gospel Gatherings’ in Goodooga (3rd Saturdays) Lightning Ridge (4th Saturdays), with a special heart for ministering with and to the Indigenous community in our towns.
