Lightning Ridge

Diocese of Armidale

Lightning Ridge is a town in northern New South Wales near the southern border of Queensland, about 740 kilometres south-west of Brisbane. A sign on the way into Lightning Ridge reads ‘Population ?’ as many people in Lightning Ridge don’t answer census forms. The population estimates range from 1500 to 7000 people and locals are very multicultural. Opal mining and tourism are the main industries that support the economy. Lightning Ridge Community Church has a weekly service with a kids program and a service is held at Cumborah on the second Sunday of the month.

Kurt & Rebecca Langmead

The Langmead family began their term in Lightning Ridge in early 2020. Kurt and Rebecca have always loved sharing their lives and the gospel with people in places that others might miss. They count it a privilege to be serving as a family in Lightning Ridge. Together with their local church and wider network of supporters, they are prayerfully seeking to be “Building Christ’s Church – in the Ridge, on the Rock" – that is, the solid rock of Christ and his word.

Children: June (2012) Arthur (2014) Lydia (2016) Jeremiah (2019)

Langmead's May Prayer Points
Please pray for Lightning Ridge and surrounding communities following the tragic death of one of parishioners in a house fire this month - that we would grieve, but not without hope (1 Thess 4:13); pray especially for the many young people she introduced to Jesus over many years teaching Kid’s Church and SRE.
