The Mining Downturn Affecting Communities in Western Australia

The effects of the mining downturn on communities in rural Western Australia and fostering relationships with link churches were on the agenda at this year’s Western Australian Annual General Meeting held in mid-March. Attended by a record number of supporters, the AGM included a talk from The Rt Revd Jeremy James, the Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Perth.

BCA Field Staff David and Priya Morgan shared about their ministries in the townships of Paraburdoo and Tom Price. They spoke of the joy of people coming to Christ, moving to town and joining the church, and how the mining downturn is impacting these communities, as church families and long-term residents are forced to leave to find work.

The team in WA would like to thank St Mary’s Anglican Church in West Perth for hosting the AGM and for their support of BCA over many years. Thanks also go to the catering team, led by Kaye Healy.

While in Perth, the Morgans also visited St Nicholas’ Rockingham and their link church, St Peter’s Wanneroo, to speak about their ministry in North West Australia. We have nine Field Staff families in Western Australia. If you would like to partner with one of these families and become their link church, please contact the Regional Office on 1300 554 025 or email rob.healy@bushchurchaid.com.au
