After a year without a full-time Minister, the Lightning Ridge Community Church will welcome Kurt & Rebecca Langmead and their children June, Arthur, Lydia and Jeremiah in early 2020. Kurt and Rebecca are Sydney born and bred but have served in parish ministry in the Diocese of Armidale for the past five years.
I first came to understand ‘grace’ for myself in my early high school years through a lunchtime Christian group and Bec can’t remember a day where she didn’t have clarity that salvation was by grace alone.
We met and married at Engadine Anglican Church, where we both completed some ministry training and secular work before I commenced theological study at Moore College.
Since I graduated I’ve served as an Assistant Minister at Gunnedah for two years and St Peter’s Armidale for the past three. In more recent years, Bec and I have experienced a growing heart for mission – beginning in our own backyard, and extending to the ends of the earth.
Bec and I pray daily that the Lord would grant us opportunities to share both our life and the gospel with people in places that others might miss. The prayer is based on Paul’s words in 1 Thessalonians 2:8, and over the last ten years this little prayer has helped to keep us focused on the things that matter most in life and ministry.
Lightning Ridge is a long way from the green and leafy suburbs of the Sutherland Shire, but Christ’s lordship extends to all places, including the ones that are a little off the beaten track. We trust there’ll be heaps of opportunities to share our lives and the gospel at the Ridge. We feel privileged and excited at the opportunity to serve there in the next season of our life and ministry.
As I begin my new role, my priorities will be to develop good, gospel partnerships with my wardens, parish council and key lay leaders, as well as ensure that prayer and ministry of the word forms the foundation of all our plans and programs.
We would appreciate your prayers: that we would finish well and start strong; for settled hearts for our four children and good starts at school for June (Year 2) and Arthur (Kindergarten); and for the development of good, long-term gospel relationships as we share both our life and the gospel.
