Sharing Jesus' light in Jindabyne

Trent McGrath

Mcgrath family

Our prayers have been answered and a family has responded to the call to establish a church plant in Jindabyne. Thank you for your support in making this happen and welcome to Trent, Alice, Henry, Maisie and Siena McGrath!

Alice and I both grew up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Alice came to faith through the youth ministry of St Faith’s Narrabeen and I met Jesus in my 20’s who transformed my life when I read the Gospels for the first time.

I’ve been involved in a broad range of parish and preaching ministries over the last five years, where my main focus was in serving youth and young adults. I was formally ordained to ministry in Sydney’s West, and returned to Narrabeen in 2018 to create a culture of discipleship among young adults. It has been a season of God’s grace to our family to be able to return to our home church of St. Faith’s and has prepared us well for church planting in Jindabyne.

God has given me a steady desire be on mission somewhere outside of Sydney and when this opportunity came up in Jindabyne it gave us a real focus to our prayers. We both love the mountains and snow sports, and we regularly visit our family who live there. Jindabyne is a growing village that desperately needs a church to shine the light of Christ in the community. We believe this is something that God has equipped us to start and called us to lead.

Our hope is that God will use our church to pour out His mercy on the year-round residents as well as the seasonal visitors that make Jindabyne their home. We long to see hundreds of people come to know Jesus, refresh their love for the local church, and live missionally in the village and in their networks. Our initial goal will be to meet with God’s people to learn, pray and dream together, and begin to establish relationships and connections in the community.

We would love your prayers as we finish at St Faith’s and for our adaptation to new surroundings, particularly for our son Henry who starts school in 2020. Please ask God to provide good friends for all of us, especially our children. Please also pray as I think strategically about when and where to plant; plan and prepare what to teach; and as I look for every opportunity to share the gospel as I go.
