I couldn’t believe it when I was first told, so I had to ask again and check. Sadly I heard it correctly the first time. I was told by senior clergy that a western NSW parish was more than likely going to be serviced by another parish 30 minutes away. Although this is a common occurrence throughout rural Australia, for this parish it was the first time and it was due to one reason – the drought!
The Bush Church Aid Society has a public charitable trust established for “the direct relief of sickness, suffering, distress, misfortune, disability or helplessness in rural and regional areas of Australia” and/or “to do all things necessary for the achievement of these objects”.
Messages of congratulations, welcomes and farewells from across the BCA family.
We have had a BCA box on top of our fridge for a few years now, putting our coins in it and then taking it to church for collection.
After five years serving the community of Exmouth, last month the Nicol family moved to take on the BCA-funded ministry in Karratha. Here Frank tells us why Exmouth is so unique...
Our dear brother in Christ, colleague and much loved member of the BCA family, Bruce Chapman lost his battle with melanoma on Monday 7 May 2019.
Who am I? That the Lord of all the earth, would care to know my name?
The opening lyrics of this song by Casting Crowns are what came to my mind when I was asked to write my first article for The Real Australian.
A century ago when BCA was launched, the goal was to venture outback beyond the established towns, to people the churches seldom reached through our usual parish ministries.
The Revd Greg Harris has been commissioned as BCA’s 12th National Director. Greg follows in the footsteps of our founder SJ Kirkby, another boy from Bendigo.

Last year the Chapman family celebrated ten years in the NT. Bruce’s ministry has touched many young people across Darwin and beyond and in this article, written just before his passing from Melanoma on 6 May 2019, he remembers how his work has all been part of God’s grand plan.
Two exciting ministries were launched in April to help celebrate BCA’s Centenary and lead us into the next 100 years. We are delighted to welcome Trevor & Cindy Bell as well as Jacob & Sarah Kelly who are serving in regional Victoria.
Brendan & Laura Hurley and their three boys have recently joined the BCA family. They are serving in Bluff Point WA in an evangelistic ministry.
Technically ‘yes’, but ‘no’ in the stuff that excites celebration, sticks in the memory and inspires others to dream. Centuries do matter. Don Bradman’s last innings – London 1948 – ended with the second ball, out for a duck. If he had scored only four runs his average would have been 100.00, the perfect century, but forever it stays at 99.94.
As part of its centenary celebrations, Bush Church Aid has republished an expanded edition of Leon Morris’ Bush Parson. Bush Parson is Morris’ autobiographical account of his service as the BCA supported minister of the huge and challenging Minnipa parish on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula during the Second World War.
On behalf of The Bush Church Aid Society of Australia I would like to introduce you to our new National Director – Archdeacon Greg Harris from Bendigo.
Messages of congratulations, welcomes and farewells from across the BCA family.
In this our Centenary Year, a number of exciting new ministries and projects are being launched to lead Bush Church Aid into its next 100 years. The first of these is the Digital Church Pilot Project.
Chris was living in his car when he turned up at St Matthew’s Church in Port Hedland last year. I think he was a bit embarrassed by his situation.
