Bush Church Aid welcomes enquiries from committed Christians who wish to explore whether they have the convictions, gifts and character to serve God in the bush. Listed below are some current opportunities:

Lightning Ridge, Northern New South Wales

The Bush Church Aid Society and The Anglican Diocese of Armidale are seeking an ordained Anglican minister with a commitment to teaching the Bible and a passion for reaching the lost, to serve in this unique outback community.


The Lightning Ridge Community Church gathers weekly in this culturally diverse opal mining town of over 2000 people. The Church has a Sunday morning children’s ministry and there are excellent opportunities to teach Scripture at the local school. There is a weekly Bible study group and a daytime women’s group. Regular services are also held in the outlying centres of Goodooga and Cumborah.

There is a modern church building in Lightning Ridge and a well-equipped vicarage with four bedrooms and a study. The congregation has long-standing mission partnerships with city churches and there are excellent opportunities to reach out to tourists in the cooler months.

Coober Pedy, South Australia

The Bush Church Aid Society and The Anglican Diocese of Willochra are seeking an ordained Anglican minister for an exciting pastoral position. It is fully stipended and includes accommodation.

Coober Pedy is an iconic outback community of over 1,500 people located 850km north of Adelaide on the Stuart Highway. It is a major tourism and service centre, best known for underground opal mining.

The ministry encompasses the underground Catacomb Church as well as mining chaplaincy at the nearby Prominent Hill site. The congregation has a long-standing commitment to solid teaching. There are many opportunities to reach out to the community and to tourists who visit the underground church

Exmouth, Western Australia

The Anglican Diocese of North-West Australia and Bush Church Aid seek an experienced Anglican evangelical minister to lead a church in a small coastal city of 2,200 people.

He needs to have a good grasp of the gospel, love people and be committed to serving for at least four years. The successful applicant will pastor the current Anglican congregation in Exmouth – a predominantly tourism town, famous for the Ningaloo Reef and Cape Range National Park.

Cloncurry, North West Queensland   

The Anglican Diocese of North Queensland and Bush Church Aid seek a suitable ordained Anglican Priest for this fully stipended position.

North Queensland is an extraordinarily beautiful and diverse Diocese which extends from Sarina (south of Mackay) all the way to the Torres Strait Islands and the PNG border. Most of the population live on the Pacific Coast, but the Diocese also goes inland all the way to the Northern Territory border. Cloncurry has a population of around 2900 and is located about 780 kilometres south-west of Townsville. It is a regional service centre and local industries include cattle-grazing and mining, as the area is home to some of Australia’s largest copper deposits.

To be appointed you must be an Anglican Priest in good standing and hold or be eligible to hold a Queensland “Blue Card”. The Diocese ordains women clergy.
