Leigh Creek Parish

GO TO PRAYER NOTES

Leigh Creek is in the beautiful Flinders ranges  in South Australia north of Port Augusta. The principal industry of the town is open cut coal mining, in fact the open-cut eventually consumed the original township and in 1982 the residents moved to a new town 13km to the south.

The Parish of Leigh Creek and Northern Mission stretches from Hawker in the south, to Birdsville and Innamincka in the north, covering the spectacular and beautiful Flinders Ranges and the deserts of North Eastern South Australia.  It encompasses sheep and cattle properties, indigenous and mining communities and a variety of small towns which service the surrounding country. Tourism is a growing industry.

Services are held weekly at Leigh Creek and occasionally at Blinman and Hawker and in other places as the opportunity arises.

Arthur and Jane have responded to the call for ministry based in Leigh Creek. Arthur has worked in other chaplaincies, hospital and ITIM and is involved in state SES, sea rescue and is an amateur radio operator. Arthur has also been a chaplain to Narrunga aboriginal community since the mid 1990s. Jane has been a pre-school teacher. Arthur took up responsibility for Leigh Creek in mid January 2007.
