Christ for Campers

CHRIST FOR CAMPERS IN CROAJINGOLONG

The Anglican Parish of Croajingolong plans to run a Christ for Campers (C4C) programme over Easter 2010 at Mallacoota. The population of the small town increases dramatically in the peak holiday season. Last January a program of breakfasts, gospel singing and short talks was very successful. This year the Mallacoota locals feel it would be better to try an Easter Event. It will be run April 1st – 8th. A fair amount of the program will fit into the events of the local church as they celebrate Christ’s resurrection. Similar to the annual C4C programme run in the Kimberley, the programme is adapted to work in a single town. Whereas the North West programme is largely for older people travelling around Australia, the Mallacoota events brought many families.

Music and talks from the Rev Greg Jones BCA’s Victorian Regional Officer form the backbone of the programme. But extra helpers are needed.

If you love the Lord and some of the following points apply to you, then your help would be fantastic:

  • Willingness to work for the spread of the gospel with like-minded people
  • Ability to set up and pack away equipment such as chairs, tables and barbecues
  • Skills in cooking and serving meals
  • Happy to sit and chat with people who come along
  • Willingness to give a short talk about your walk with Christ (optional)
  • Help in organising the team
  • Can you support the Croajingolong parish as they step out in faith?

CHRIST FOR CAMPERS IN THE KIMBERLEY

Last year a team led by Mike & Joan Maude ran a series of breakfasts in caravan parks from Kununurra to 80 Mile Beach. They visited 5500 camp sites and cooked 1700 breakfasts. Each meal included a short presentation of the gospel, and a number of people responded positively.

Two Christ for Campers programmes are being run in Western Australia this year. Both are seeking volunteers to continue the spread of the gospel to these campers.

Broome and Eighty Mile Beach July 2nd-19th
Kununurra August 2nd-13th

If you have a passion for the gospel and can be in the North West for either of these periods, please phone your nearest BCA Regional Office or email nomads@bushchurchaid.com.au for further details.

Skills needed are the ability to set up and cook a barbecue breakfast, be prepared to listen to people and chat, and if you are willing the ability to provide a short testimony.

Michael Stuart, Regional Officer for BCA in Western Australia believes that this is an important witness among travellers and holiday makers. He has appealed for groups of students, church groups and BCA Nomads to step forward and help make sure that Christ for Campers programmes can be mounted in Broome and Eighty Mile Beach during the Western Australian school holidays.

"Being there for the gospel is the main thing." Michael said. "Mike and Joan have built up a very effective programme, and our prayer is that others will be willing to keep it going."
