King Island Parish
All Saints Church continues the Anglican presence on King Island that began in 1863. Many tourists and family visitors come to experience life as it was 15-20 years ago – unhurried, friendly and self-sufficient, set in a place of natural beauty. As our resident population ages and declines it is essential that a critical mass be maintained sufficient to provide all essential services.
With a population of 1650 people, there is a broad age-range among residents of King Island. Some are retirees. Many are farmers. Others work in local industries including the dairy factory, abattoir, kelp harvesting, motor mechanics and light engineering. According to Peter Nunn, former BCA worker on King Island, the island has beautiful rolling geography, much of the reason it attracts tourists and retirees from mainland Australia.
Rev Capt Rod and Mrs Christene Oldfield
The Oldfields have been connected with BCA for a number of years. Rod was inducted as Priest in Charge of the Anglican Parish of King Island on Monday 5th April 2010. Prior to that Rod and Christene had served with BCA on Norfolk Island and in Coober Pedy. On King Island, Rod will be working with locals to ensure they can recognise their gifts and use them in church. He will also be running a Sunday School in the Parish whilst trying to connect with the Island's residents. They are thankful to those who have been praying specifically for them and want you to know that your prayers have been heard and answered. Continue to pray for Rod and Christene as they settle into parish life on the Island.
