Wentworth Parish

Wentworth (population of 1500) is a historic town at the junction of the Murray and Darling Rivers. For many years it was a very busy riverboat and customs port and was the third busiest customs port in NSW after Sydney and Newcastle. Today it is much quieter and is part of the "Sunraysia" tourist area which incorporates Mildura in Victoria which is about 30kms east. The Sunraysia district is also well known for sultanas and citrus fruit. The importance of the pioneering days still lingers through Wentworth with its country charm and beautiful historic buildings. Significant buildings include St. Johns Anglican Church built in 1871 - the first church on the Darling river, and the old gaol, built to hold the most violent offenders of early Australia.

Rev. Don and Mrs. Helen Wilson were our missioners in Wentworth, their ministry finished in July 1998. Rev Don and Mrs Helen Wilson have taken up a short term ministry - for some 6 months on King Island and have now retired but are keeping active links with the Society.

Please pray for the parish of Wentworth.
