St Lukes
Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Congregation, Cairns

Over the years Bishop Arthur Malcolm has encouraged this congregation into being from the first meeting of just a handful of people, till today where a congregation of over 100 people meet in their own building. The Diocese has provided a branch church of St.John's, Cairns for this Ministry. With BCA's help the appointment of Rev Canon Jim Leftwich as priest in charge has meant that the Aboriginal and Islander people now have a full time centre and ministry.

Jim was deaconed in 1987 and ordained priest in 1988. He has served as a non stipendiary assistant at St. John's Cairns since 1987. Prior to his appointment to St. Luke's Jim was the coordinator for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Consultative Committee that advised the State Minister of Education on the needs and aspirations of the Aboriginal and Islander children and adults.

The Rev Canon Jim Leftwich is married to Lala and have two adult children Loryanna and Damon.
