Farewell to Ceduna

Now that the Beever's have moved on, BCA bids farewell to a long association with the town of Ceduna. BCA had from the beginning a concern for the whole person so it is not surprising that medical work has played a great part in our community.

Medical work was started in Ceduna with the opening of the first hospital in 1925. It was extended from there by the provision of a nurse at Penong in 1927 with a cottage hospital opening a year later. In 1931 the original hospital was replaced at Ceduna and the medical work expanded with medical aid being provided to an Aboriginal Mission at Koonibba.

On the 19th of January 1938, an aeroplane was brought into the grounds of St Andrew's Cathedral where it was dedicated by the Archbishop of Sydney. Then after preliminary flights and tests it was flown to Ceduna and so the Flying Medical Service began. In 1968 the Royal Flying Doctor Service took over the aerial side of the work.

In more recent times, working with the Bishop of Willochra, the Society has been supporting the Anglican Parish Church in Ceduna. The parish is now able to support itself and so BCA along with the people of the parish and diocese celebrate this long and successful association and thank God for his providence.
