Blackwater Parish

The population of Blackwater is continuing to grow slowly (about 7,000), with the expansion of mining in the area (black coal). The congregation has also grown over the last four years. Bluff is a town stable in size but with quite a turnover of railway people. Dingo is a declining timber town and Duaringa is a stable primary producing area. The shire and the parish is a mixture of old and new. A temporary arrangement has been made for Blackwater parish to extend to Middlemont. This is a coal town of about 2,500 people 175 km north of BIackwater. This involves a monthly overnight trip. It was served by non-stipendiary clergy until June 1996.

The parish is involved in ministry through Sunday School, church services on properties, crisis accommodation program through Careforce and Religious Education in schools. There is also an emerging ministry through a couple of small groups and an emerging youth ministry.

Rev Clive and Mrs Vivienne Robinson completed their ministry in Blackwater in the first half of 1999 and are now facing new challenges with the Anglican Youth Department in Sydney.
