The P.R.A.Y of Pray |
| When Christian's P.R.A.Y., they will find that their prayers are more effective if they follow a pattern |
| 1.
-raise: 'Enter into his gates with
thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise...' We need to be careful about our self-centredness, as all to often we are so concerned with what we can get from God, that we fail to praise Him as we should. When we pray, we should thank God for His past and present blessings. Thank Him for potential blessings. 2. -equest: '... by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your gifts to God.' (Phil 4:6) We must bring our petitions to God, the little needs as well as the big problems. Small issues often become enormous if we neglect to pray about them. God knows our needs before we ask, but He still wants us to ask in faith. He shows us new things through prayer. God does not want us to try to bear our own burdens. 3. -ccept: 'And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.'(Heb ll:6) The prayer of faith brings pardon, purity, peace, power and provision. We need to be ready to accept God's answers to our requests. People often want to receive from God what they want and then believe. 4. -ield: ' yet not my will, but yours be done.' (Luke 22:42) We must surrender totally to God's will. His will is always best. Christ yielded His will to His Father's will, even when it meant death on the cross. Jesus' death paid die penalty for sin and brought salvation to mankind. Often we settle for less than God's best because we try to hold some things in reserve for ourselves. If we can P.R.A.Y. with these things in mind we will open ourselves to the blessings of God. Murray Lamont |
