APOSS Turns One!

Celebrating one year

Dale, Bishop Andrew & Rachel

The Anglican Parish of Sunraysia South (APOS) celebrated their first birthday on Sunday 10th February, but as a church they had much more to celebrate than just a birthday.

Throughout their first year as a BCA parish, much has been achieved, with new people coming to church, increasing attendance rates by up to 60%. A regular Sunday School started with a wide age range of preschoolers and primary school aged children.

APOSS Angels (children’s choir) sang during the celebration service to show their skills after meeting each Friday afternoon for singing training and practice. They are becoming much more popular as they begin to perform at local Red Cliffs community events including Carols by Candlelight and the Australia Day Breakfast, both held at Barclay Square.

Little Ducks also began in the second half of 2007, a Friday morning fun packed program for mums and pre-schoolers. Little Ducks will be advertising and reaching out to the Red Cliffs community throughout 2008.

A strong loving community is developing at APOSS, with people wanting to share their generosity with all who come along, especially over lunch each Sunday in the church hall.

One final celebration really helped the party along on Sunday, and that was having lunch at the newly purchased Rectory, which was dedicated by Bishop Andrew Curnow.

A lovely first birthday cake of the St. Mark’s church building was generously designed by a parishioner’s partner and proudly cut by the Parish Wardens, Rector, Bishop Andrew Curnow and Brian Roberts from Bush Church Aid at the lunch time celebration at the new Rectory. APOSS looks forward to what God has in store for their church community for the rest of 2008, and they are sure it will include many more celebrations.
