BCA Nomads - Helping Drought Affected Farmers

In late 2002, as the drought began to really hurt, a new role emerged for the Nomads. A number of people, both recent travellers and those still planning their travels, responded to a call for helpers from Rev Rick Maude, BCA Missioner at Lightning Ridge.

The BCA Drought Aid programme is sending fodder to drought affected properties, but Rick Maude noticed another need too - people to people help. He wrote that "while property owners may be asset rich, they can in fact be cash and emotionally poor. People's lives become locked into a daily round of feeding and watering stock, leaving no time or money for any other activity on the property, a day off or social contact."

A call went out and helpers came.

Farmers wary of outsiders to begin with, are now requesting help on their properties, from BCA Nomads.

The pictures on these pages show that people do make a difference.
