EARLIER
APPOINTMENTS 2002
Clinic Nurse Darwin
Miss Sue Sellar has been appointed to
and has taken up this position at the end of March 2002.
Sue has been a strong supporter of the Society and has
already spent time in Darwin some 2 years ago. Sue,
whose experience encompasses some 20 years of nursing
strongly believes that God has called her to this
work.
It is our intention to commence and
structure the service in temporary accommodation, whilst the
project of building the accommodation complex continues to
take shape in the planning and approval phases.
Newman - Brian and Anita Fyffe
We are pleased that Brian and Anita
Fyffe have answered the call to ministry in Newman.
They both have a wealth of experience in mining town
situations in North West Australia and in fact are both
north-westerners. Trained in Western Australia they
have a strong cultured identity with the people of the North
West.
Ministry Training Arrangement -
Geraldton - Jonathan & Pascale Deeks
Jonathan and Pascale have been
appointed to a two year Ministry Training arrangement at the
Cathedral in Geraldton. This training will expose them
both to a wide range of ministry experiences which will give
them many opportunities for their development. We are
excited that we can be involved in this arrangement with the
Diocese of NW Australia as Jonathan and Pascale equip
themselves for a BCA placement elsewhere in the Diocese.
Leigh Creek - Mark and Sandy Evans.
Mark and Sandy took up the challenge
of the patrol ministry based in the coal-mining town of
Leigh Creek South Australia at the beginning of February.
They have recently finished ministry in the coal-mining town
of Moranbah in the Diocese of Rockhampton. Mark’s background
in the forest industry and their love of the bush will equip
them for this vital ministry up the Birdsville and Strzlecki
tracks.
Roxby Downs - Tom and Michelle
Beever
Tom and Michelle have taken over the
ministry of Roxby Downs with Andamooka and some
responsibility in Woomera. Tom and Michelle are not new to
BCA or to the Willochra Diocese having served in an
affiliate capacity at Ceduna in the 90’s before moving to
Perth. It is good to have experienced bush ministry people
to take care of the ministry at Roxby and the surrounding
properties.
Wyndham - Peter and Joy Palmer
Peter and Joy have moved from Brisbane
to take up the ministry in Wyndham/Oombulgurri to the north
of Kununurra. Peter was ordained deacon by Bishop Tony
Nichols in Brisbane in late December.
Peter and Joy are affiliate field
staff with BCA and will be under the ministry supervision of
Bob Rothwell in Kununurra. They hope to find local
employment to support their ministry.
North Queensland - Jim and Lala
Leftwich
We welcome Jim and Lala back in a new
arrangement with the Society. Jim’s new role as Assistant
Bishop in the Diocese of North Queensland involves him in a
great deal of travel around the Diocese to the various
aboriginal communities. The travel is costly and the Society
has decided to assist in meeting the cost of having Jim
minister in those communities and to the local leaders.
Derby - Lyndon and Kelly Bell
A new venture and initiative to give
people the opportunity to service short term in a BCA type
mission centre has been established what we are calling "Co-
Workers". We welcome Lyndon and Kelly who will spend about 6
months working in Derby with David Day. Derby for many years
was part of the BCA ministry focus in the Diocese of NWA. In
the last year it has had a tentmaker ministry established.
The co- worker arrangement provides prayer and pastoral
support for people who are able to be self funded in mission
centres .
Alan and Philippa Hoskin
The OUTBACK Ministry District is up
and going thanks to Alan and Philippa Hoskin’s willingness
to go for three months to set the new ministry in place and
work through some of the initial arrangements of
transferring the ministry base to BCA House in Broken Hill .
The OUTBACK Ministry District is that which was formerly the
parishes of Wilcannia and Menindee, and based principally on
a patrol style ministry , the new initiative will focus more
on using the latest technological advances now available in
the region to form a communication network and couple this
with a hospitality ministry using the former hostel building
in Lane street.
Alan and Philippa are not new to BCA
ministry having planted a church in Nightcliff in Darwin in
the 70’s, then taking on the Victorian Regional Officer’s
position in the 80’s. They have recently completed a term
back in Nightcliff
